On the practice

We are seven people working at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and material research. Founded in 2011 in Seattle, we work primarily in the Pacific Northwest on private houses, small civic buildings, and adaptive reuse.

We design slowly. We prefer mass timber to steel where the structure allows. We talk to our clients about a building's life cycle the way some firms talk about facade panels — at length, and with conviction.

Manifesto

1. 01We design slowly. The first hundred years of a building matter more than the first month.
2. 02We prefer mass timber. Forests grow back. Steel mills do not.
3. 03We work in plan, in section, and in conversation — not in renderings.
4. 04We close projects when they are done, not when they are due.
